Manchester United want to rope in Real Sociedad goalkeeper Alex Remiro to replace inconsistent Andre Onana, reports state. Onana, who arrived from Inter Milan to replace club legend David De Gea under the bars, was beaten 55 times in the Premier League alone this season. While his ball-playing skills are appreciated by manager Erik Ten Hag, Onana has not been an ideal candidate for the Red Devils when it comes to shot-stopping.
Spaniard Alex Remiro, meanwhile, managed 13 clean sheets for Real Sociedad from 33 La Liga games. It was earlier reported that Manchester United is open to selling the lion's share of their current squad in the summer. If they manage to land 29-year-old Remiro, Cameroonian Onana will be among the first to be offloaded, reports claim. Remiro has a release clause in his current contract which is set at €70 million (£60m), Goal.com said in a report.
Erik ten Hag's Manchester United is desperately trying to avoid its lowest finish in the Premier League era. The Dutch manager could yet salvage the campaign by winning the FA Cup this month. But even victory against Manchester City in the final would not disguise his team's woeful performance in the league, and at a time when new co-owner Jim Ratcliffe is overhauling the failing club.
The manager has repeatedly called for trust in his process in the face of ever-worsening results. United's 13 league defeats are its most in the Premier League era. United has 18 losses overall.
United has won only one of its last seven league games, against last-placed Sheffield United. At eighth in the standings, it is on course for its lowest finish of the era.
