ICC T20 World Cup 2024 final: Here's how South Africa's chase of India's 176/7 concluded

India vs South Africa ICC T20 World Cup 2024 final LIVE: Asked to chase India's 176/7 at Barbados's batting-friendly track, South African openers Reeza Hendricks and Quinton de Kock wanted to start strongly against the Indian pace battery. Rohit Sharma used Jasprit Bumrah and Arshdeep Singh as expected before handing Axar Patel and Kuldeep Yadav an over each towards the end of the batting powerplay. OVER 1: Arshdeep Singh started strongly with a dot ball. Hendricks knicked the next ball but it landed in front of a diving Rishabh Pant. The first run of the innings came in the third ball when Hendricks managed a single. Quinton de Kock couldn't get off the mark immediately but managed a single off the second ball he faced.Hendricks scored a boundary of the last ball to Singh's disappointment.

OVER 2: Jasprit Bumrah, India's ace bowler, cleans Hendricks up with an in-swinger. Bumrah stays over the wicket and pitches the ball up on the stumps, naturally angling it in. Hendricks looks to play for the line and puts out a straight face of the bat but the ball pitches and straightens to beat the outside edge and knock over the top of off stump. The Proteas batter walks back for 4 off 5 balls. South Africa 7/1 as Aiden Markram walks in. The captain finds a boundary in the very first ball to take his team past the two-digit mark. Bumrah finishes strongly sans leaking any more runs.

OVER 3: Arshdeep Singh continues. In the third ball of the over, Singh gets Markram. An ill-timed swing results his innings ending at Pant's gloves behind the wickets. Like Reeza, Markram also walks back for 4 off 5 balls. South Africa 12/2 as Tristan Stubbs joins QDK in the middle. The penultimate ball of the over witnessed India reveiwing a caught-behind decision. The ultra edge confirmed the umpire's decision was right as there was no contact. Another brilliant over for India.

OVER 4: A knick from QDK beats the short third man and slip and races to the boundary.  The left-hander then manages a couple with a crisp gounded hit through covers. Stubbs treats Bumrah respectfully but South Africa crosses the 20-run-mark.

OVER 5: Axar Patel is introduced by Rohit Sharma and Stubbs finds a boundary of his second ball. Using wind to his advanatge, Quinton de Kock also smashes the spinner for a boundary before ending the over with a single.

OVER 6: Kuldeep Yadav joins the attack. The batters manage to rotate the strike effectively despite Rohit using his attacking spinner. At the end of the powerplay South Africa reach 42/2 -- three runs lesser than India.

OVER 7: Axar Patel resumes. Stubbs goes down on his pads to find a boundary of the third ball, forcing Patel to reconsider his line. The off-spinner finishes strongly wth two dot balls.

OVER 8: Kuldeep Yadav gets a welcome boundary before being knocked around for singles. Then, QDK blasts a maximum in the final ball of the over as South Africa enters attack-mode.

OVER 9: Axar Patel's first ball is hit for a six by Stubbs who then hands the strike to his partner. A reverse sweep attempt goes wrong but SA manages another run. Axar Patel gets Stubbs in the second-last ball of the over to hand India a much-needed breakthrough. Stubbs falls for 31 off 21. South Africa 70/3 as Heinrich Klaasen walks in.

OVER 10: Hardik Pandya gets his first over the game. The medium pacer delivers three dot balls in a row before Klaasen attacks a short and wide delivery over covers for six. South Africa fail to make most of a free hit and settles for a single. They finish the over strongly against India's wishes.

OVER 11: 10 overs to go and 96 runs to defend, Rohit Sharma hands the ball to Ravindra Jadeja. After two singles, Klaasen finds a six straight over the bowler's head. Runs keep coming effortlessly for the African side as the two experienced campaigners get going.

OVER 12: Kuldeep Yadav is brought back by Rohit Sharma. Klaasen keep piling misery over India as a poor short-pitched ball reaches the crowd. The right-hander is in full flow as South Africa reaches the three-digit mark.

OVER 13: Arshdeep Singh is called back by India. After Klaasen hands him the strike, QDK flicks Singh over fine leg for a six. South Africa look completely in command of the run chase. However, he falls the very next ball trying to play the same shot. Kuldeep Yadav takes a fine catch as Quinton de Kock falls for 39 off 31. SOUTH AFRICA 106/4. David Miller is the new batter to join Klaasen.

OVER 14: SA get two runs off the first ball of Kuldeep Yadav's final over. Miller stuns the Indian fans by hitting a four and a six off the Chinaman's final two balls of the game. A game to forget for Kuldeep as he leaks 45 runs in his four overs for no wicket.

OVER 15: Klaasen fires a terrific boundary down the ground as Axar Patel returns. A huge six travels 99 metres to touch the roof of the stadium as SA brings down the target to 42 off 33. Miller is excited as Klaasen smashes more boundaries to bring down the target to 30 off 30 balls.

OVER 16: Rohit turns to Jasprit Bumrah hoping for a breakthrough. Klaasen brings up fifty with a couple of the second ball of the over. He reaches his half century in just 22 balls. He respects Bumrah knowing his side can afford a few dot balls. Just four runs comes off the over.

OVER 18: Jasprit Bumrah is handed his final over. Miller gets a run after two dot balls. In the forth ball of the over, he breaches Janesen's defence. Bowled! Jansen walks back for 2 off 4 balls. Miller is stranded at the other end as Keshav Maharaj takes guard. South Africa need 20 off 12 balls as India's best bowler's spell comes to a close.

OVER 19: Arshdeep Singh starts with a dot ball as Maharaj looks keen to not loose his wikcet. Miller gets on strike with three balls left to go in the second-last over of the game. He swings big but only manages a couple of the fourth ball. A yorker denies Miller any chance of hitting a boundary. South Africa now need 16 off 7 balls. Brilliant over from the lef-hand seamer as he gives away just four runs. South Africa need 16 runs in the final over to win!

OVER 20: David Miller is up against Hardik Pandya. A wide full toss is smashes straight down the ground by the African batter. However, Suryakuar Yadav not only stops the ball from going past the boundary line but completes a spectacular catch to dismiss him. Indian fans ecstatic as third umpires check if SKY had it clean. OUT! Miller walks back for 21 off 17 with South Africa needing 16 to win from 5 balls. An edge takes the ball past Pant as the new batter Kagiso Rabada takes the equation to 12 runs from 4 balls. Swing and a miss! Rabada runs to bring Maharaj on strike. 11 needed off the last three balls of the game. Another single, SA need 10 runs off the final two balls. Pandya bowls a wide to bring down the target to nine. WICKET! Rabada departs as India seal the game. Anrich Nortje, the new batter, gets just one run off the last ball of the game.
