For, probably, the first time in the history of T20 cricket, it took not one or two, but three Super Overs to decide the winner.

In a 2024 Maharaja T20 Trophy match between Hubli Tigers and Bengaluru Blasters at the M. Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bengaluru on Friday, both sides scored 164 in the stipulated 20 overs.

Chasing Hubli Tigers' challenging target, Bengaluru Blasters needed just six runs in the last over with three wickets in hand. But, a run-out off the last ball left the match tied.

In the first Super Over, Bengaluru Blasters skipper Mayank Agarwal, who top scored earlier with 54, was out first ball. But the team managed to score 10 runs. In reply, Tigers managed to sneak a single as bowler Lavish Kaushal dropped Hubli skipper Manish Pandey, with two runs needed off the last ball.

In the second Super Over, Hubli Tigers could manage only eight runs. But, Vidwath Kaverappa defended the target, forcing the match into an unprecedented third Super Over.

In reply, Kumar, who came out to bat after his bowling, slammed two fours in his 11-run knock to clinch the thriller for Hubli Tigers.
