Rohan Jaitley, late BJP leader Arun Jaitley’s son, is the likely successor of Union Home Minister Amit Shah's son Jay Shah -- the Secretary of the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI). Jay Shah is expected to vacate the office of the BCCI chief to become the chairman of the International Cricket Council (ICC).
Who is Rohan Jaitley?
Rohan Jaitley is currently holding the office of the President of the Delhi and District Cricket Association (DDCA). Multiple media reports claim that the son of the former Union Finance Minister is way ahead in the race to replace Shah. Punjab's Dilsher Khanna, Goa's Vipul Phadke and Chattisgarh's Prabhtej Bhatia are others in the fray, reports indicate.
Rohan is a lawyer who practised in the Delhi High Court as well as the Supreme Court before being named the Central Government Standing Counsel for the Delhi High Court earlier this year.
Arun Jaitley once served as the vice-president and possessed a good influence in the BCCI, strengthening Rohan's bid, Hindustan Times said in a report. The daily added that a lawyer by profession, Rohan began his stint in cricket administration four years back when he was elected as the president of the DDCA, a position Arun Jaitley held for 14 years. Under Rohan's tenure, Delhi hosted ICC ODI World Cup matches when the tournament returned to the subcontinent in 2023 and he won a second term as the DDCA chief unopposed.
Jay Shah to become ICC head?
According to reports, Jay Shah is the leading candidate to succeed Greg Barclay as the ICC chief in the top position. England and Australia are in line to support Shah's candidacy, the Economic Times reported quoting sources.
If elected, Shah will become the youngest-ever ICC Chairman at the age of 36.
