Having won their first trophy in the recently concluded Durand Cup, NorthEast United FC (NEUFC) is approaching the Indian Super League (ISL) 2024-25 with a positive intent. Goalkeeper Gurmeet Singh pulled off a couple of exceptional saves in the penalty shootout as NEUFC overcame a two-goal deficit to stun Mohun Bagan SG 4-3  in the final.

For Bollywood actor John Abraham's team, this was its first ever silverware in a decade after its inception, and it couldn't have been sweeter, coming in front of a full, passionate Mohun Bagan fans at the iconic Salt Lake Stadium.

However, a rematch of the summit clash awaits them in the second Matchweek when they travel to Kolkata. Interestingly, the Highlanders will begin their campaign with an away fixture against newly-promoted Mohammedan Sporting Club, also a Kolkata side!
