Critics often blame Manchester United's high asking price for their inability to off-load centre-back and former captain Harry Maguire in the recent transfer windows. If the latest media reports are to be trusted, the English defender would be put on sale for a reduced amount in the January transfer window by the Red Devils.

Harry Maguire, who almost sealed a move to West Ham United in the summer of 2023, would be available for potential bidders at £10 million ($13m, €12m) when the transfer window reopens in January. Manchester United have been demanding  £30 million ($38m, €36m) for the stout defender, who arrived from Leicester City in 2019.

The Hammers deal collapsed after the club reportedly grew tired of waiting for Maguire to agree his United exit. Although Maguire had agreed on personal terms with West Ham, his payoff from United took forever.

Maguire, who has not been consistent for United, had lost his place as a regular starter under Erik Ten Hag. He was stripped of his captaincy in July 2023 and was asked to pass on the armband to Portuguese midfielder Bruno Fernandes.

Although Maguire had scored a few header goals for United, his inconsistency and lack of creativity had cost the club dearly at many times. The 31-year-old is currently nursing an injury suffered during the 0-0 Premier League encounter against Aston Villa and is not expected to be available for selection immediately.

Erik Ten Hag's Manchester United will return to action on October 19 when they host Brentford at Old Trafford in the Premier League. They are 14th in the table after 7 rounds with two wins, two draws and three defeats to their credit.
