It's hard to keep Washington Sundar out of the game, it seems. The tall and lanky off-spinner was picked only in the second Test of the India-New Zealand three-match series, but has picked up 15 wickets already, including 4/81 in the ongoing third and final Test at the Wankhede in Mumbai.
The pick of the Indian bowlers was Ravindra Jadeja, who took 5/65 that helped India restrict New Zealand to 235 in the first innings after losing the toss. Jadeja provided the crucial breakthrough by dismissing a defiant Will Young (71 off 138 balls), and followed it up with the wicket of Tom Blundell for a duck just two balls later. Before the tea break, Jadeja also bowled Glenn Phillips for 17.
Talk about striking in a quick succession! ⚡️ ⚡️

Even as Jadeja ran through the lower order, Daryl Mitchell (82) held one end up. He put on 87 runs with Young, and followed it up with small but crucial partnerships of 28 with Philips, 23 with Ish Sodhi, and 18 with Ajaz Patel, to lend the Kiwi score a semblance of respectability.

With New Zealand struggling at 210/8, Mitchell started going for the big shots. Sundar was punished for a maximum in his 17th over, and again in his 18th over. The second one was an absolute stunner—the clean strike putting the ball in the second tier over long on. Mitchell, himself, enjoyed it, mouthing, “Wow! That's big!” as he stood admiring the shot.

However, it was Sundar who had the last laugh. Off the first ball of his 19th over, he angled one away from Mitchell, who opened the face of his bat, trying to play it fine to third man. But, all he could do was guide the ball into the hands of skipper Rohit Sharma at slip position.
Sundar completed the formalities in the same over, trapping Patel LBW for seven.
