The man who was fatally shot on Christmas day near Brasilia, Brazil, has been identified as Real Madrid player Endrick's brother-in-law, according to reports.
The man identified as Mauricio Nunes Goncalves was shot eight times in the head.
Who killed Mauricio Nunes Goncalves?
Goncalves, aged 38, was trying to escape his attackers in a bar when he was shot dead. There is no clarity if the shooting was the result of a brawl but witnesses told police that there was no prior argument between Goncalves and the gunman.
However, the authorities are probing all angles, including premeditated execution, considering the direct nature of the attack. No arrests were made when this article was published.
The Sun reported that Goncalves was the brother of the partner of Endrick's elder sister Lavinia Sudre. However, Goncalves is being referred to as the Real Madrid player's brother-in-law in Brazil.
Lavinia changed her Instagram profile to show a black ribbon to mourn the death of her relative. In the post, with Goncalves' photo, she wrote, "You left beautiful memories in our hearts that we will never forget."
"Today, I wanted to share only positive and happy things, but unfortunately, that won’t be the case. Today, we say goodbye to someone whose life was cruelly cut short," she added.
The funeral rites were carried out on Thursday afternoon at 3pm local time.
The Brazilian forward, 18, who signed a six-year contract with Real Madrid in July is the youngest male player to score an international goal at Wembley. Real Madrid bagged his services for €35 million besides additional €25 million in bonuses.
