Robert Lewandowski might have helped Barcelona humble archrivals Real Madrid in the Spanish Super Cup final but the Catalan giants are certain they will have to replace him with a younger striker soon. The La Liga club have reportedly identified the striker they want to sign to fill Lewandowski's shoes and may make a move before the January transfer window shuts.
Barcelona's new striker
New Castle United's Alexander Isak and Sporting's Viktor Gyokeres are the two strikers that reportedly interest Hansi Flick's Barcelona. Barcelona's priority is to bring on board an attacking player who can operate on the left-wing as well. Ansu Fati's recurring fitness issues mean they need to find a dependable partner for Raphinha in Lewandowski's absence. According to Mundo Deportivo, Isak and Gyokeres can both well be that very mobile number nine who can drop to the wing when needed, Barcelona believe.
However, many teams are after the duo and a January transfer happening seems highly unlikely. Newcastle are hellbent on making the European competition from England where the top-four fight is heating up. Gyokeres, meanwhile, has been in scintillating form for the Portuguese side and is expected to attract exceptional bids from Europe's biggest clubs. Barcelona, struggling financially, may not be able to match the offers being tabled by their rivals.
Marcus Rashford to Barcelona?
25-year-old Isak is preferred a little more by Barca due to his technical quality and versatility, Mundo Deportivo added. However, if the former Spanish champions find it difficult to rope in either of them, it has been decided to go all-in for Manchester United reject Marcus Rashford.
Spanish media reports call it Barcelona's 'Plan B' as the 27-year-old has clearly indicated that he is likely to leave Old Trafford soon. Manchester United have added the 27-year-old Englishman to their "for sale" list and Barca may find the negotiations easier. As a home-grown player, any money received for Rashford would be pure profit for Manchester United.
