Days after the BCCI review meet to discuss Team's India's poor performance in the recently-concluded Border-Gavaskar Trophy series against Australia, the Board acted tough, restricting the stay of players' wives and families on tour.
According to a report in Dainik Jagran, the BCCI has said that for a tournament lasting more than 45 days, the wife or family can stay with the player only for 14 days. And for shorter tours, the stay will be limited to seven days. Dainik Jagran quoted a BCCI official as saying that wives and family members will not be allowed to travel with the players for the entire tour.
The Board believes that the presence of families throughout a tour affects the players' performance, especially for assignments abroad. Anushka Sharma, Ritika Sajdeh and Athiya Shetty are often seen on tours.
The BCCI review meeting was held on Saturday in Mumbai, and was attended by head coach Gautam Gambhir, chief selector Ajit Agarkar, captain Rohit Sharma and Board officials.

Australia regained the Border-Gavaskar Trophy for the first time in a decade following the 3-1 win against India. The latter were also knocked out of the World Test Championship final in June this year because of the series loss. India had lost the Test series to New Zealand 0-3 at home earlier this year.
Players would not be allowed to pick and choose bilateral assignments, and will have to provide valid medical reasons for skipping any matches. Also, the tenure of support staff may be limited to three years.
The BCCI also decided not to allow head coach Gautam Gambhir's manager Gaurav Arora to stay in the team hotel, or be seated in the VIP box at stadiums. He will neither be allowed to accompany Gambhir in the team bus nor in the bus behind it.
The Dainik Jagran report also said that the BCCI would not pay for players' luggage if the weight exceeds 150kg, and that the players themselves would have to bear the cost.
