Gangtok

The capital of Sikkim has loads to offer. The Tashi viewpoint provides a panoramic view of the extensive landscape. The cascading waterfalls at Banjhakri provide a scenic sight. MG Road is the centre of attraction for its European street style. One way to acquire the essence of Gangtok is through their street food: Phagshapa (thinly sliced pork belly cooked with radish and dried chili peppers) and Gyathuk (soup prepared using hand-pulled noodles mixed with vegetables and meat) are must-try items. These delicacies not only provide a gastronomic blast but also would make one revisit Gangtok.

Nathula Pass

53 km from Gangtok, lies a tapestry of snow-capped mountains, verdant valleys, and sparkling lakes, 14,140 feet above sea level. The Nathula Pass that connects Sikkim to Tibet is part of the Silk Road—a trade route that once linked India to China. It is home to diverse flora and fauna such as Juniper, Primula, and Aconitum. The sacred Tsomgo Lake, near the Nathula Pass is a photographer’s paradise, changing colours from emerald to deep shades of blue with changing seasons.

This holy pilgrimage marks a spiritual heaven for Buddhist monks, as well as a must-visit destination for cultural enthusiasts. Enchey Monastery, a testament to the heritage of Sikkim, is renowned for its intricate designs and vivid murals depicting Buddhist mythology.

Yuksom

The initial capital of Sikkim, Yuksom is a small village that exudes serenity and soothes the senses. Being the gateway to Kanchenjunga National Park and base camp for its trekking, it attracts a large influx of mountaineers from all parts of the world. Along with the picturesque landscapes, it is rich in biodiversity—oak, magnolia, silver fur, birch, and maple.

Pelling

This picturesque town is a bird watcher's paradise, housing over 200 different species of birds. Pelling beautifully captures the essence of Sikkim, with its cascading waterfalls, welcoming people and holy refuge. Khecheopalri Lake is believed to be a wish-granting lake, enticing countless visitors. Rabdentse Ruins is an heritage site that offers a glimpse into the royal families that once ruled Sikkim. The Tibetan inscriptions symbolise the close-knit relations between China and India of the past.
