Both Pakistan and India are nuclear powers, and they share nearly the same culture and values. People from both countries are reacting emotionally to the ongoing crisis. Those who are cheering for war make me uncomfortable and sad because they don’t know about its dreadful consequences. War will wipe both of us out. We need to go back to our history and realise that wars have not helped us in any manner. Kashmir is still under conflict.
Observing social media at this critical juncture made me realise how uncensored and unbalanced it has become. Making memes and trolls over such a serious issue shows the immaturity of social media users. However, it is heartwarming to note that many Pakistani youngsters are posting and tweeting positive comments about IAF pilot Wing Commander Abhinandan Varthaman, who is not being treated like a criminal. Pakistanis are appreciating this gesture and are praying for his safe return to India. Abhinandan has a family, and war or his prolonged custody in Pakistan will never bring peace to his family. This shows the priorities and thoughts of common people.
We must end this conflict. Instead of thinking about political advantages, one must think of common citizens who only need peace. If we don’t end this war, it will finish us. Peace is the only solution.
