Five years since the disappearance of Beijing-bound Flight MH370, Malaysia is open to resume the hunt for the plane, if firms come forward with credible leads and proposals. Transport Minister Anthony Loke said, at an event marking the anniversary of the plane's disappearance on Sunday, that there is no new search planned, the government was willing to hear proposals to resume the search.
The Malaysia Airlines flight disappeared on March 8, 2014 with 239 people on board while flying from Kuala Lumpur to Beijing. An extensive search operation followed in which 1,20,000 square kilometre in the Indian Ocean was covered, but yielded no result.
Bits of debris, believed to be from Flight MH370, have been found since. The search was eventually called off in January 2017.
In 2018, Oceans Infinity, an exploration firm, started a fresh hunt on a no-find-no-fee basis, but failed to find any trace of the plane.
Hundreds of people attended the event marking the anniversary at a Kuala Lumpur shopping mall.
