After the final list of the updated National Register of Citizens for Assam was published on Saturday, Pakistan Prime Minister targetted the Narendra Modi government, linking the NRC list, in which 19,06,657 people have been excluded, with the abrogation of Article 370.
Taking to social media, the Pakistan prime minister said Modi government's ethnic cleansing of Muslims should send alarm bells ringing across the world.
Sharing a news report of the publication of the NRC, he tweeted, "Reports in Indian and international media on Modi Govt's ethnic cleansing of Muslims should send alarm bells ringing across the world that the illegal annexation of Kashmir is part of a wider policy to target Muslims”.
Over the past few days, Khan has been upping the rhetoric against the Union government, calling the abrogation of Article 370 “part of the ethnic cleansing agenda”. He had claimed that the decision was made with the intention of changing the demography of the region.
On Friday, Pakistan had observed the 'Kashmir Hour' to express "solidarity" with the Kashmiri people.
Meanwhile, the Amnesty International India has appealed to the Assam government to ensure that the Foreigners Tribunals function with utmost transparency.
It should function in line with the fair trial standards guaranteed under national and international laws, Akar Patel, head of Amnesty International India, said in a statement. "Several reports have demonstrated how the proceedings before Foreigners Tribunals are arbitrary, while their orders are biased and discriminatory," he said.
