10 drones were deployed on the sites in Abqaiq and Khurais of the Aramco oil companies in Saudi Arabia. The attack has been claimed by the Houthis group in Yemen.

The group's military spokesman said on Al Masirah TV.

The group pledged to widen the range of its attacks on Saudi Arabia, which leads a coalition fighting them in Yemen

It wasn't clear if there were any injuries in the attacks, nor what effect it would have on oil production in the kingdom. The attack, however, is likely to further tensions across the wider Persian Gulf amid a confrontation between the US and Iran over its unravelling nuclear deal with world powers.

The state-owned oil giant did not immediately respond to questions. The kingdom hopes soon to offer a sliver of the company in an initial public offering.

Saudi Aramco describes its Abqaiq oil processing facility in Buqyaq as "the largest crude oil stabilization plant in the world." Processed oil from the facility is shipped onto transshipment points on the Persian Gulf and the Red Sea. The facility on an average is  capable of processing up to 7 million barrels of crude oil a day.

The Khurais oil field has estimated reserves of over 20 billion barrels of oil, according to Aramco.
