Plane crashes in Kazakhstan killing nine

The flight was scheduled to fly to the country's capital city Nur-Sultan

A passenger plane in Kazakhstan crashed shortly after take-off, killing nine. The Bek Air flight took off from Almaty airport and had 100 people on board including five staff.

Nine people, six of them children, were injured, according to the committee.

The plane lost altitude and crashed through a concrete fence before colliding into a two-storey building according to Almaty aviation authorities. The crash took place about 5 km from the airport.

The flight was scheduled to fly to the country's capital city Nur-Sultan.

President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev said that a government commission has been set up to investigate the accident. He also pledged to compensate families of the victims and tweeted that those responsible "will be severely punished following the law."
