Spanish Prime Minister Pedro Sachez’s wife has tested positive for the coronavirus, the PM’s office announced on Saturday.
As per reports, Begona Gomez is confirmed to have contracted the virus and is currently in the official residence of the prime minister. Both Sanchez and Gomez were well, a government statement said, adding that the couple were following the protocol set by health officials.
Spain has so far reported 191 deaths and over 6,000 cases of the coronavirus. Sanchez had announced a countrywide lockdown on Saturday similar to that of Italy in a bid to contain the spread of the coronavirus. People are allowed out only for emergencies, for work and to buy food.
On Friday, the World Health Organization (WHO) said Europe was now the “epicentre” of the coronavirus. The WHO had declared it a pandemic on Wednesday.
