At a Black Lives Matter Protest in London, a black man was seen carrying an injured white man to safety after violence broke out at the site of the demonstration.

“That's not what we do!” Patrick Hutchinson had yelled when he carried a white man in a ‘fireman’s lift’ during the chaotic scenes on Saturday, when mostly peaceful anti-racist protest turned violent after a clash with counter-protesters.

The image captured by Reuters photojournalist Dylan Martinez has now gone viral.

According to a Reuters report, there was a skirmish near the Waterloo Bridge in central London, and a man fell down. After a few minutes, Hutchinson emerged carrying the victim.

According to witnesses, the fight was between anti-racist protesters and far-right protesters.

Reactions on social media to the picture and events it portrayed has been largely positive. According to Hutchinson’s friend, he “did what they had to do—stopped someone from being killed.”

People created a barrier around Hutchinson and the person he was carrying to prevent the crowd from further causing any harm.

Protests erupted across British cities and around the world after a black man, George Floyd, died in police custody in Minneapolis on May 25. On Friday, in another incident, another African-American, Rayshard Brooks, was shot by police officials outside a Wendy’s in Atlanta, as they suspected him of driving under the influence.

Counter protests, led by members of far-right groups, have erupted too.
