Six people, including the suspected gunman, died Thursday after a shooting at Plymouth town in England.
A ‘serious firearms incident’ was reported in the Keyham section of the city in southwest England at about 6:10 p.m. local time, the Devon and Cornwall police said. Emergency services including air ambulance staff responded to the incident.
The police said the incident was not being considered terrorism-related, a Reuters report reads. One of the killed was a ten-year-old child. Two females and three males died at the scene, while one female died in the hospital.
The police said that the area has been cordoned off and that they aren’t looking for anyone else related to the incident.
Residents were asked to stay indoors post the incident.
Interior Minister Priti Patel called the incident “shocking”. She said her thoughts were “with those affected.” “I have spoken to the Chief Constable and offered my full support,” she tweeted.
The police said that it wasn’t clear of the motive or if there was any connection between the victims and the suspect.
A witness told BBC that she heard shouting followed by several gunshots.
Local MP Luke Pollard said, “Please can everyone stay safe, stay indoors and follow police advice.”
