Iconic Argentinian football player Diego Maradona was accused by a 37-year-old Cuban woman of rape. The woman claims that she had an affair with the footballer 20 years ago when she was a minor, AFP reported.

“I was dazzled, he won me over... But after two months everything started to change”, Alvarez Rego said. She also said the late footballer coerced her into using cocaine. “I loved him but I hated him too, I even thought about suicide,” she said.

Rego said that Maradona held her against her will in a hotel in Buenos Aires in 2001. And that she was physically abused several times and raped by him. Rego hasn’t filed a complaint yet, but she is providing evidence to an Argentine prosecutor this week after a complaint was filed by an Argentine NGO, Foundation for Peace.

Rego, who lives in Miami, said she met the footballer when he was in his 40s and when she was 16 when the former was living in Cuba. Maradona died of a heart attack at age 60. Rego, a mother of two, also said that she was forced to undergo breast augmentation surgery by Maradona, who is widely regarded as one of the greatest footballers in history.

Maradona, last year, underwent surgery for a brain clot after decades of struggling with alcohol and cocaine addiction.

"I have done what I had to do, the rest I leave to the courts," Rego said. She also said that she had opened up about the abuse to balance some of the stories coming out in the media in a run-up to his first death anniversary on November 25.
