Fierce fighting continues between Russian and Ukraine troops in the industrial city of Sievierodonetsk. It is seen as an important battle in Russia's attempt to control Eastern Donbas region, Reuters reported.

In his address on Monday night, Ukraine President Volodymyr Zelenskyy said that fierce street fighting continues in Sievierodonetsk. "They (Russian troops) outnumber us, they are more powerful. But Ukraine's forces have every chance of fighting back," Reuters reported quoting the Ukraine President.

According to Ukrinform, a state-run news agency, Head of the Luhansk Regional Military Administration Serhiy Haidai informed through his social media handles that Russian troops are trying to establish full control over Luhansk and Donetsk regions, but this goal has not been achieved so far. Fighting has been going on in Sievierodonetsk for many days now, he said. The Military Head was quoted saying by Ukrinform, “The Russian assault in Novookhtyrka and Voronove directions was repulsed. In Bilohorivka area, the enemy uses sabotage and reconnaissance groups.” He also claimed that Ukraine’s air defence units shot down two Orlan-10 unmanned aerial vehicles.

Reuters quoting Ukraine's defence ministry said that Russia was throwing troops and equipment to capture the largest remaining Ukrainian-held city in Luhansk.
