'It's time for us all to get behind Liz Truss and her team'

“This is it, folks,” said former UK PM Boris Johnson in his farewell address. Johnson made a speech ahead of Liz Truss officially taking over after a meeting with The Queen. He made the speech outside the iconic No.10 residence at Downing Street.

Johnson was forced out of premiership after a slew of top-level ministers from his cabinet stepped down in July. Several other MPs followed suit. Among them were finance minister Rishi Sunak, Secretary of State for Health and Social Care Sajid Javid and Education Secretary Michelle Donelan.

Johnson in his farewell speech thanked his dog, Dylan. “I just say to my party, if Dylan and Larry (the Downing Street cat) can put behind them their occasional difficulties, then so can the Conservative party,” he said, the Guardian reported.

"It's time for politics to be over folks, it's time for us all to get behind Liz Truss and her team and deliver for the people of this country."

"Because that's what the people of this country want, that's what they need, and that's what they deserve," Johnson added. Johnson will now meet The Queen at her Balmoral home to hand in his resignation. Truss will then be invited to form a government.
