At least one person got killed and over 11 suffered injuries in a blast at the centre of a busy pedestrian street in Taksim area, Central Istanbul in Turkey. Firefighters, medical teams rushed to the scene.
TRT World reported that the cause of the explosion was yet to be ascertained. Visuals published on social media showed the public running away and police, emergency services heading to the scene.
Istanbul Governor Ali Yerlikaya tweeted, “Today, at around 4.20pm (local time), an explosion occurred in Taksim Istiklal Street. Our police, health, fire and AFAD teams were sent to the scene. There are casualties and injuries. Developments will be shared with the public.”
