Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy visited the liberated city of Kherson on Monday and posed for pictures along with troops.
Zelenskyy posed along with troops in the central Kherson square. Video footage showed Zelenskyy waving to residents who waved at him from an apartment window and yelled “Glory to Ukraine!” The reply “Glory to the heroes!” came back from Zelenskyy’s group, made up of soldiers and others, AP reported.
Russia recently declared the withdrawal of troops from Kherson region. The withdrawal of troops came as a huge embarrassment for Russia since it was the only regional capital Russia managed to capture during the over eight months of the war with Ukraine.
In his nightly video address on Sunday, Zelenskyy said, “Stabilization and restoration of law and order in 226 settlements will be ensured in the Kherson region. This is more than 100,000 local residents as of this time.” He added, “We are restoring communication, internet, and television. We are doing everything to restore normal technical capabilities for electricity and water supply as soon as possible.” Zelenskyy said transport and postal services would be restored along with healthcare services.
However, Zelenskyy warned the public that the situation was still dangerous and advised them to be mindful of mines. “I urge all residents of Kherson to be very careful and immediately inform the rescuers about all dangerous objects,” he said. Zelenskyy charged the Russian army left behind the same atrocities as in other regions of the country, where it was able to enter.
