Amid the raging protests in India against Pakistan Foreign Minister Bilawal Bhutto's personal attack on Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Bhutto said he is not afraid of the RSS, the BJP or PM Modi.
Bhutto made the comments following India's External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar's sharp attack on Pakistan over its support to terrorism at the United Nations Security Council meeting. He had called the prime minister the "butcher of Gujarat."
While talking to the Pakistani media in New York on Saturday, Bhutto said history is a witness to the role played by Narendra Modi in the Gujarat riots. "No matter how hard the BJP or RSS protests, they cannot distort history," Dawn quoted him as saying.
Bhutto claimed that he did not coin the term "butcher of Gujarat" and said it was the people of India who gave Modi this title. "So, no matter how much you protest, you cannot change facts.”
He asked the protestors to condemn the Muslim genocide in Gujarat and speak up against the way Muslims are treated in India. He alleged that Muslims in India are victims of discrimination and hatred.
He said the protests by the BJP will not scare Pakistan. "We are not afraid of RSS. We are not afraid of Mr Modi. We are not afraid of the BJP. If they want to protest, they should,” he was quoted as saying.
On Saturday, the BJP had held protests across the country against Bhutto's "uncivilized and distasteful" personal attack on PM Modi.
