Former Pakistan prime minister Imran Khan has been indicted in the Toshakhana case a day after his arrest. Additional and District Sessions Judge Humayun Dilawar presided over the hearing, Dawn reported.

As per an EC ruling, he failed to declare the funds he received after selling the gifts given by foreign dignitaries.

Khan was produced before a special court inside a high-security police facility here for the hearing in a corruption case in which he has been arrested. Pakistan's anti-corruption watchdog in the meanwhile sought a 14-day physical remand of the former prime minister.

One of the two cases against Khan is about Al-Qadir Trust allegedly causing more than Rs 50 billion to the national exchequer. He was produced in the Anti-Accountability Court No. 1 presided by Judge Muhammad Bashir.

Elaborate security measures were put in place to stop PTI workers and supporters getting anywhere near the hearing facility.  Those not allowed to enter include PTI Senior Vice President Shah Mahmood Qureshi and Secretary General Asad Umar.

Political tensions have been on the rise in Pakistan since Khan's arrest. Supporters have taken to the streets demanding the former prime minister be released. One of the leaders who called for supporters to come out to protest, Asad Umar, has been arrested.

And now, the Ministry of Interior has called for the Pakistan Army army to be deployed in Punjab to maintain the law and order situation in the province “in aid of civil power”, Dawn reported.

As per an order issued by the Federal Ministry of Interior, following a request of the Home Department Government of Punjab, via a letter dated May 9 2023, the Army will be deployed to help maintain law and order situations across the Punjab province in aid of civil power."

The Punjab police in the meanwhile, said that 945 miscreants and lawbreakers from across the province have been arrested, after PTI protests.
