Huw Edwards has been named as the BBC presenter who allegedly paid a teenager for explicit pictures. The police said he doesn't face any criminal charges, Bloomberg reported. Edwards’ wife Vicky Flind said that he has mental health issues and added that it has worsened due to the controversy. Flind also said that Edwards is receiving care at a hospital, where he will stay for the foreseeable future".
On July 9, a BBC presenter was accused of paying a teenager £35,000 ($44,934) for sexually explicit photographs. At the time, the presenter wasn't named. Edwards has been hosting the nightly news. He started his career at the Swansea Sound radio station. In 1984 he joined the BBC as a trainee. Within two years he became a parliamentary correspondent and reported on Westminster for over a decade.
He eventually became one of the channel's most beloved and respected presenters and headlined the Six O’Clock News from 1999 to 2003, which became the most-watched programme in the UK. He then went on to host the News at Ten.
In recent years he has led the coverage of the royal family including Queen Elizabeth II's death, the weddings of Princes Harry and William, and the coronation of King Charles and Camilla. Edwards, one of the highest-paid journalists on the BBC, was born in Bridgend to a professor of Welsh literature at Swansea University and a teacher.
He went on to get undergraduate and postgraduate degrees in French from Cardiff University. In December 2021, he revealed he suffered bouts of depression. He told Men’s Health UK he had experienced bouts of depression that “hit me in a strong wave” and then “go away”. Edwards has covered several state occasions from the Festival of Remembrance to trooping the colour and the state opening of parliament. In 2019, he became the main host of BBC’s election coverage.
He is married to Vicky Flind, a TV producer and the couple have five children.
