Mushaal Hussein Mullick, wife of jailed Kashmiri separatist Yasin Malik has been appointed special adviser to Pakistan's caretaker Prime Minister Anwaar-ul-Haq Kakar. She will be a special adviser to PM Kakar on human rights and women's empowerment. The appointment was among the five Special Advisers to Prime Minister (SAPM), who were appointed on Thursday along with the 19-member cabinet at Aiwan-e-Sadr, the presidential house.

Jammu and Kashmir Liberation Front (JKLF) chief Yasin married Pakistani artist Mushaal in Rawalpindi in 2009. The two met while Yasin was on a tour of Pakistan in 2005. He was gathering support for his signature campaign in support of the Kashmiri movement.

Mushaal and her daughter reside in Islamabad. Born in 1985, Mushaal is a graduate of the London School of Economics. Mushaal's mother Rehana Hussein Mullick has served as a secretary general of Pakistan Muslim League’s women’s wing. Her father M A Hussein, an economics professor, was the first Pakistani member of a Nobel Prize jury.

Her sister Sabien Hussein Mullick is a social worker and her brother Haider Ali Hussein Mullick is a lecturer at the Naval Post Graduate School in California.

Yasin was sentenced to life imprisonment by a trial court in a terror funding case in May 2022 and is currently serving his sentence in Tihar Jail in Delhi. The National Investigation Agency (NIA) has approached the Delhi High Court seeking the death penalty for Yasin. Mushaal, in 2022, appealed to the UN, UNHCR and international powers and said Yasin's sentence was a grave injustice and called it a war crime to imprison a warrior of his motherland. Pakistan's foreign ministry condemned the sentencing and said it is "another abhorrent attempt of the Indian government to deprive the Kashmiri people of their true leadership".

In August 2022, Mushaal's account was blocked/withheld after she wrote to Prime Minister Narendra Modi, asking that her husband be released.
