Hundreds remain stuck unable to leave the Burning Man festival in the Nevada desert after heavy rains lashed through campsites creating chaos. According to authorities one death was reported during the event.

An investigation was launched on to the death reported at the site. Authorities had advised people to seek shelter in the Black Rock Desert and conserve essentials including food and water.

“The Pershing County Sheriff's Office is currently investigating a death which occurred during this rain event,” the Pershing County Sheriff's Office said on Saturday. The police also said that the person’s family was notified.

Since Friday, the remote area in northwest Nevada was hit up 0.8 inches of rain in just 24 hours. The rains had made it difficult for the attendees to walk and bike through the desert.

The Bureau of Land Management in a statement said that "More rain is expected over the next few days and conditions are not expected to improve enough to allow vehicles to enter the playa."

It is still unclear when the roads would reopen.

In a statement on Saturday, Burning Man organisers said that of the weather conditions are favourable, roads would be reopened on Monday.

The bad weather has made the roads slippery and filled with mud. Roads in and out are closed as vehicles can barely drive on it. Further rain is expected and the authorities have said that it could take a few days for people to leave.

Meanwhile, the people stranded in the desert are having a tough time adjusting to the siuation. Reportedly, the festival's toilet facility is out of use as service vehicles cannot drive on the mud to empty them.

Burning Man festival is one of the most well-known annual cultural events in United States.

However, many people are trying to make the best out of it by dancing in the mud to the techno music.
