Ukraine's Special Forces on Monday said that the last week's strike against the Russian Black Sea Fleet headquaters in Sevastopol has killed the fleet's commander Admiral Viktor Sokolov. The strike had also claimed the lives of 33 Russian officers, said the Ukraine military.

However, Russian Defence Ministry is yet to respond on the commander's death though they confirmed that there has been an attack at the fleet headquaters.

The attack had left around 100 soldiers injured as well.

Though it was earlier reported that Sokolov was dead in an attack, it was confirmed by the Ukraine military only on Monday. The Sevastopol headquarters of the Russian Black Sea Fleet was hit in a Ukrainian missile strike on Friday last week.

The Crimean port of Sevastopol was seized by Russia and annexed in 2014.

According to Sky News, the attack was carried out using long-range Storm Shadow missiles.

"After the strike on the headquarters of the Russian Black Sea Fleet, 34 officers died, including the commander of the Russian Black Sea Fleet. Another 105 occupiers were wounded. The headquarters building cannot be restored," the special forces said on the Telegram messaging app.

Since the invasion, Kyiv has stepped up attacks in the Black Sea and Crimea as Ukrainian forces press on counteroffensive measures to take back the Russian occupied territory.
