2023 has witnessed several celeb deaths and of these, the passings that were most searched on Google include Friends actor Matthew Perry, singer Tina Turner and several others. Check out the list below:
Matthew Perry
Known for his role as Chandler Bing in Friends, Matthew Perry was an unbearable loss to global sitcom fans. He was also known for his roles in Fools Rush In, The Whole Nine Yards and The Whole Ten Yards. He got Emmy nominations for his performances in The West Wing and The Ron Clark Story.
Perry who suffered from severe drug and alcohol addictions died at the age of 54 in Los Angeles, California, on October 28.
Tina Turner
Tina Turner was a singer, songwriter and actress popularly known as the 'Queen of Rock'n'Roll'. She was the lead singer of the husband-wife duo Ike & Tina Turner before she went solo. She was conferred with 12 Grammys, a Grammy Lifetime Achievement Award and three Grammy Hall of Fame inductions. Tina was also the first woman and the first Black person to be featured on the Rolling Stone cover. She retired in 2009 after her Tina: 50th Anniversary Tour. She died in Zurich, Switzerland, on May 24.
Sinéad O'Connor
Sinéad O'Connor was an Irish singer whose 1990 album I Do Not Want What I Haven't Got was her biggest commercial success after it sold over seven million copies worldwide. As an activist, she raised issues such as human rights, women's rights, child abuse and racism. She converted to Islam in 2018 and changed her name to Shuhada Sadaqat though she continued performing and recording under her former name. She died at the age of 56 in London's Herne Hill on July 26.
Ken Block
Ken Block was a US pro rally driver with the Hoonigan Racing Division and co-founder of DC Shoes. He shifted his business to Hoonigan Industries, an apparel brand for auto aficionados, after selling his DC Shoes ownership. Ken died at the age of 55 in a snowmobile accident near his ranch in Utah's Woodland on January 2.
Jerry Springer
Jeremy Springer was a US broadcaster, journalist, actor, lawyer and politician. He was the 56th Mayor of Cincinnati in 1977-78. He was most known for hosting Jerry Springer from 1991 to 2018. He also hosted America's Got Talent in 2007-08. He died at the age of 79 in Illinois' Evanston on April 27, months after he was diagnosed with pancreatic cancer.
Angus Cloud
Actor Angus Cloud was known for his role as Fezco in HBO show Euphoria. The 25-year-old was found dead at his family home in Oakland, California, on July 31.
Nicola Bulley
British woman Nicola Bulley reportedly disappeared while walking her dog in UK's Lancashire. Amid suspicion that the woman drowned, an extensive search of the nearby River Wyre using divers, helicopters, sniffer dogs and drones failed to find her body. Later two people walking downstream about 1.5 km away found her body. An inquest in June 2023 found that she died due to accidental drowning.
Jane Birkin
French actress-singer Jane Birkin made global headlines for her relationship with French actor-singer Serge Gainsbourg. Her final film was the Academy Award-nominated short film La femme et le TGV. She was found dead at her home in Paris at the age of 76 on July 16. Her cause of death was not revealed.
Jimmy Buffett
US singer-songwriter Jimmy Buffett was known for hit songs known as The Big 8. He had release more than 30 albums and the Recording Industry Association of America (RIAA) has certified eight of them as gold and nine as platinum or multi-platinum. Buffett was admitted to hospital in May 2023 and he entered hospice care in August. He died at the age of 76 at his home in New York's Sag Harbor on September 1.
Lance Reddick
Lance Reddick was a US actor known for his role as Cedric Daniels in The Wire from 2002 to 2008. He also starred as Charon in the John Wick franchise, Detective Johnny Basil in Oz Season 4 and Matthew Abaddon in Lost. Reddick died from heart disease at the age of 60 at his home in Los Angeles, California, on March 17.
