Maldives parliament witnessed total chaos on Sunday as a fight broke out between the ruling and opposition MPs ahead of a crucial vote for President Mohamed Muizzu's cabinet. A special session was convened to seek parliamentary nod for the ministers in Muizzu’s cabinet when the clashes erupted.

Reportedly, the fight broke out between People's National Congress (PNC) MPs (Pro-government) and Progressive Party of Maldives (PPM). The clash broke out after Maldivian Democratic Party (MDP) resorted to withholding approval for four members of Muizzu's cabinet.

Videos of the brutal fight between the MPs had gone viral in the social media.

According to Adhadhu, a local online news outlet, the Opposition MPs were barred from entering the chambers by the parliamentarians from the ruling alliance.

A statement was issued by the PNC and PPM saying the MDP's move to withhold approval paved way for obstruction of services provided to the people.

They also demanded Speaker's resignation.
