Two French prison officers were killed and three were injured when their prison convoy was attacked in Normandy. A major manhunt was launched by French Police after the incident. The escaped prisoner has been identified as Mohamed Amra, 30.

Reportedly, the attack occurred as the convoy was returning to Vreux jail after a court hearing in Rouen.

President Emmanuel Macron expressed his shock over the incident. "Everything is being done to find the perpetrators of this crime so that justice can be done in the name of the French people,” he said.

French interior minister, Gérald Darmanin, expressed his condolences to the families of the prison guards killed in the ambush.

“All means are being used to find these criminals. On my instructions, several hundred police officers and gendarmes were mobilised,” he said.

Amra, born in 1994, had been convicted of aggravated robbery and charged with abduction leading to death as well.
