After the assassination attempt at the Pennsylvania rally, former United States President Donald Trump thanked everyone for their support and prayers. Trump issued a second statement on his social media platform Truth Social urging Americans to ‘stay united’.

“Thank you to everyone for your thoughts and prayers yesterday, as it was God alone who prevented the unthinkable from happening...We will fear not, but instead remain resilient in our faith and defiant in the face of wickedness. Our love goes out to the other victims and their families,” he said.

“We pray for the recovery of those who were wounded, and hold in our hearts the memory of the citizen who was so horribly killed,” Trump said. He also added that he is looking forward to attending the Republican National Convention to be held in Wisconsin this week. He will be receiving his party's formal nomination at the convention.

“In this moment, it is more important than ever that we stand united, and show our true character as Americans, remaining strong and determined, and not allowing evil to win...I truly love our country, and love you all, and look forward to speaking to our great nation this week from Wisconsin,” he added.

The Republicans' convention will take place from July 15-18 in Milwaukee, Wisconsin.

The bullet had pierced through the upper part of Trump’s ear when the attacker opened fire during a rally in Pennsylvania. The FBI had identified the attacker, shot dead by the Secret Service, as Thomas Matthew Crooks. The officials are currently investigating the motive behind the attack.

According to state voter records, the suspect was a registered Republican. He had made a donation of $15 to a political action committee that raises money for left-leaning and Democratic politicians, reported Reuters.

Thomas Crooks graduated in 2022 from Bethel Park High School. Reportedly, he received a $500 "star award" from the National Math and Science Initiative.

According to officials, Crooks did not carry any identification to the site of the shooting.

The assassination attempt on Trump enraged his supporters, paused the Democratic campaign and raised fears of further political violence in the run-up to November's election as well. It is also likely to boost the Milwaukee campaign.

Republican allies termed Trump as a hero and capturing the image of his ear bloodied and fist raised, they chanted "Fight! Fight! Fight!"

The Trump campaigners had already sent out a text asking the voters to contribute to the campaign. “They're not after me, they're after you,” the text read.

Elon Musk and Bill Ackman swiftly came to the forefront endorsing Trump ahead of the convention. "I fully endorse President Trump and hope for his rapid recovery," said Musk.
