Amid pressure to quit the elections, a Democratic Party committee will hold a meeting on Friday to discuss a virtual voting process to nominate President Joe Biden as the party's candidate.

The virtual vote would take place ahead of the Democratic National Committee's in-person convention, which starts on August 19 in Chicago.

However, it is still unclear how the nominating process would unfold.

The virtual voting comes at a time when Biden is down with Covid and under immense pressure to quit the race after the June 27 ‘shaky’ debate against Trump and Putin mix-up at NATO. The Democrats have been split over Biden contesting the elections.

Meanwhile, former US president Donald Trump has formally accepted his party’s presidential nomination at the Republican National Convention (RNC). After the assassination attempt during the Pennsylvania rally, Trump’s fiery speech at RNC is getting all the attention.

Regarding the virtual voting, Jaime R. Harrison, chair of the Democratic National Committee said that it is necessary to deal with an Ohio law that could have kept Biden's name off ballots in the state if he wasn't nominated by August 7.

The meeting on Friday is expected to show what the party's plans are for a virtual vote and its timing, which would reveal how much time remains before Biden officially becomes the Democratic nominee for the Nov. 5 election, reported Reuters.

DNC in a letter said that "On Friday, we will propose a framework for how best to proceed...Next week, we will follow up with a second meeting to consider and adopt specific rules for that purpose. No matter what may be reported, our goal is not fast-track."
