After announcing the decision to drop out of the presidential election, President Joe Biden soon endorsed Vice President Kamala Harris on Sunday. Later many senior top Democrats backed Harris as the presidential candidate and she began her campaign trail from the swing state of Wisconsin. However, former US President Barack Obama refraining from endorsing her, after days of Biden’s endorsement, has raised several questions.
According to the New York Post, Obama has not endorsed Harris as he does not think she can beat Republican candidate Donald Trump.
"Obama is very upset because he knows she can't win," a Biden family source told The New York Post.
"Obama knows she's just incompetent--the border czar who never visited the border, saying that all migrants should have health insurance. She cannot navigate the landmines that are ahead of her...When you are running for president there are things you can and can't say."
The source also said that Obama wanted Arizona Senator Mark Kelly to be the top contender when the Democratic National Convention was held in August.
"Obama is furious, things haven't gone his way, which is why he is not joining in the Democratic Party's support of Harris," the source added.
It was also said that Harris won't be able to perform well in television debates.
However, NBC News reported on Thursday that Obama plans to endorse Harris as the Democratic presidential candidate soon.
Biden on Wednesday said that his decision to drop out of the 2024 Presidential elections is a "defence of democracy". "I revere this office, but I love my country more. The defence of democracy is more important than any title," Biden said.
"I draw strength and find joy in working for the American people. But this sacred task of perfecting our union is not about me. It’s about you. Your families. Your futures. It’s about ‘We the People," he added.
According to the source, Obama had hoped to get Biden out of the way and the article by George Clooney in the New York Times was part of the plan.
