Vice President Kamala Harris, who has officially become the Democratic presidential nominee, is planning to choose from a list of six potential VP picks this weekend. Harris will announce her running mate for the November elections by Tuesday ahead of her tour in the battleground states.

Harris will be talking to Kentucky Governor Andy Beshear, Illinois Governor J.B. Pritzker, Pennsylvania Governor Josh Shapiro, Minnesota Governor Tim Walz, Arizona Senator Mark Kelly and Transportation Secretary Pete Buttigieg, AP quoted two people with knowledge of Harris' selection process as saying.

The contenders who are highly likely to be picked by Harris are Shapiro and Kelly since they are from swing states. The likes of North Carolina Governor Roy Cooper, who is close with Harris from their shared time as state attorneys general, publicly withdrew from consideration over concerns about travelling out of the state.

Her deadline for picking a running mate is effectively Tuesday, when Harris will launch a tour of seven key battleground states, starting in Philadelphia.

When President Joe Biden was asked whether he had advice for Harris on her VP pick, he said, "I'll let her work that out".

Ahead of his interview with Harris, Shapiro abruptly cancelled his three weekend fundraisers in the seaside communities on the coast of Long Island, New York. One of the fundraisers was hosted by Biden's national finance committee member Michael Kempner, who openly advocated for Shapiro to be the VP pick.

Shapiro, being the governor of Pennsylvania, a swing state where Trump was shot last month, has high chances of being picked by Harris.

Meanwhile, Donald Trump's campaign said Harris became the Democratic presidential nominee in the least possible way.
