Two people who were secretly imprisoned in a place inside Dhaka cantonment have been rescued on Tuesday, a source told THE WEEK.

One of imprisoned individual was identified as Mir Arman Ahmed, who was abducted around eight years ago. He had been imprisoned for more than eight years without any trial, the source said.

Former Bangladesh Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, former home minister and other law enforcement officials are likely to be booked under Crime Against Humanity charges, according to the source. Abducting people for an indefinite period comes under Crime Against Humanity, as per the country's law.

The secret prison called Ayna Ghar or Mirror House is inside the Dhaka cantonment. The question of the current Army Chief’s complicity could also come into question, according to the source.

This comes a day after President Shahabuddin had ordered the immediate release of Bangladesh's first female Prime Minister Khaleda Zia, who is the chief of the main opposition Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP).
