An Air India cabin crew member was allegedly assaulted by an intuder inside her room at London's Radisson Red Hotel last week, the airline revealed in a statement on Sunday.

Air India said it is cooperating with the authorities to ensure a thorough investigation is carried out into the "unlawful incident of intrusion" at the Heathrow outlet of the international hotel chain in the wee hours of Thursday.

The intruder reportedly attacked the crew member who was sleeping in her room around 1.30 am. When she screamed for help, he attacked her with a clothes hanger and dragged her on the floor, not allowing her to reach the door, reported The Times of India, citing sources.

The intruder was caught and handed over to the local authorities.

The injured victim was taken to a nearby hospital before leaving fro Mumbai. "We are providing all support to our colleague and their broader team, including professional counselling," stated the airline.

Though Air India confirmed that the victim was physically assaulted, it did not respond to reports claiming an alleged sexual assault.

The airline requested everyone to respect the privacy of the crew member as the London police is probing the incident. It added that it is working with the hotel management to avoid such incidents in the future.
