The disappearance of the UK tech tycoon Mike Lynch, after his luxury yacht sank off the Sicily coast, hours after the death of the co-defendant in a US fraud trial Stephen Chamberlain has sparked conspiracy theories.

1. Lynch went missing along with six others when the luxury yacht, Bayesian, sank off in Italy. Lynch’s wife Angela Bacares was among the 15 people rescued from the yacht. According to officials, the yacht had 22 people onboard.

2. Morgan Stanley International Bank chairman Jonathan Bloomer and Clifford lawyer Chris Morvillo were also missing. According to authorities recovering the bodies from deep-down wrecks was a challenging task.

3. Italy’s fire and rescue service said that the underwater teams are yet to get inside the yacht. The boat is positioned at 90 degrees and is sitting 49 metres below the surface of the water.

4. Conspiracy theories emerged as Lynch’s disappearance came hours after the death of Chamberlain. He was killed after being hit by a car while jogging. The driver of the car, a 49-year-old woman from Haddenham, remained at the scene and is assisting the enquiries. They both were acquitted following the $11bn sale of the software giant Autonomy.

5. Chamberlain faced the same charges of fraud and conspiracy as his former boss for allegedly scheming to inflate the value of Autonomy.
