WWE legend Hulk Hogan took a dig at US Vice President and Democrat presidential contender Kamala Harris's racial identity, and joking about body-slamming her.

Speaking at a promotional event for his new beer, Hogan, 71, whose real name is Terry Gene Bollea, was seen on camera asking the audience, “Do you want me to body slam Kamala Harris? Do you want me to drop the leg on Kamala [referring to one of his iconic wrestling moves]?"

Harris's father Donald Jasper Harris is Jamaican-American, while her mother, Shyamala Gopalan, is an immigrant to the US from India. Hogan is a supporter of US Republican presidential nominee Donald Trump, who along with his running mate J.D. Vance, too had questioned Harris's roots.

Continuing his tirade against her, Hogan said: “Is Kamala a chameleon? Is Kamala Indian?” He later remarked that he was going to “feel the heat” for his remarks and that it was the “beer talking”.

Earlier this month, Trump had launched a racial attack on Harris, questioning whether she was “Indian or Black”. He had claimed that Harris had only emphasised her Asian-American heritage until recently when, he said, "she became a black person" for political gain.

Vance, too, had backed Trump's attack on Harris, saying the former president only “pointed out the fundamental chameleon-like nature of Kamala Harris” in his remarks.

Last month, Hogan had given a rousing speech at the Republican National Convention praising Trump, and had gone on to rip off his shirt to reveal a vest with the names of Trump and Vance.

Hogan's remarks come at a time when the four-day Democratic National Convention is going on in Chicago. The Democrats will formally endorse Harris as the Democratic presidential candidate for November's election at the end of the convention.

Democrats' show of strength at the DNC

Former US president Barack Obama and wife Michelle Obama took centrestage at the Democratic National Convention in Chicago, as the power couple threw their collective weight behind Kamala Harris ahead of her formal anointment as the Democratic presidential candidate.

Driven by a deep desire to prevent a second Trump presidency, the Democrat leaders came out all guns blazing, with Michelle Obama saying that “hope is making a comeback”, referring to Harris gaining ground ahead of the polls in November.

Harris, while speaking earlier in Wisconsin at a rally in the arena where Republicans held their convention last month, said she was running a “people-powered campaign."

Sens. Chuck Schumer and Bernie Sanders, too, praised Harris.

Interestingly, Trump's former press secretary-turned-critic Stephanie Grisham also made an appearance. “Trump has no empathy, no morals and no fidelity to the truth,” Grisham said. “I love my country more than my party. Kamala Harris tells the truth. She respects the American people. And she has my vote.”
