Project 2025 is increasingly making headlines as Democrats slam the conservative blueprint chalked out by Republicans if Donald Trump gets elected for a second term in November.
However, Trump has repeatedly said he doesn't know anything about it while in another occasion said he disagrees with some of the things mentioned in the policy proposal prepared by the Heritage Foundation, a right-wing think-tank with close connections with the former US President.
While Trump tries to evade questions regarding Project 2025, Democrats have raised alarm regarding its proposals with President Joe Biden and Democratic presidential nominee Kamala Harris mentioning it in their speeches at the Democratic National Convention.
What is Project 2025?
Project 2025 is a presidential transition policy proposal and conservative poltical initiative compiled by the Heritage Foundation that calls for a rejig of the next Trump administration. It proposes a LinkedIn-style database of Trump loyalists who can be trained to replace career civil servants. It also lists measures to be taken at all levels and aspects of the administration within the first four months of Trump taking charge.
Michigan State Senator Mallory McMorrow, Pennsylvania State Representative Malcolm Kenyatta, Colorado State Representative Jason Crow, Colorado Governor Jared Polis and comedian and actor Kenan Thompson were among those who spoke at the Democratic National Convention while holding a copy of the Heritage Foundation's 'Mandate for Leadership 2025: The Conservative Promise', a 900-page policy book that forms a major component of the Project 2025.
The current book is a revised version of 'Mandate for Leadership' published in January 1981, which sought to serve as a roadmap for the Ronald Reagan administration.
Harris slammed Trump on Thursday, saying, "We know what a second Trump term would look like. It's all laid out in 'Project 2025.' ... In many ways, Donald Trump is an unserious man. But the consequences of putting Donald Trump back in the White House are extremely serious."
