Amid the Russia-Ukraine war, National Security Advisor (NSA) Ajit Doval briefed Russian President Vladimir Putin at Konstantinovsky Palace in St Petersburg on various security issues and a 'peace plan' to end the conflict with Kyiv.

Doval's meeting with Putin comes nearly three weeks after Modi's visit to Ukraine and talks with President Volodymyr Zelenskyy.

Doval is in St Petersburg to attend a conclave of national security advisors of the BRICS (Brazil-Russia-India-China-South Africa) nations.

The summit will be held in the Russian city of Kazan from October 22-24. Prime Minister Narendra Modi is set to attend the summit.

"Vladimir Putin noted the successful development of the Special and Privileged Strategic Partnership between India and Russia and stressed the importance of security issues in bilateral relations, thanking the Indian side for maintaining dialogue in this area," a Russian readout on the Putin-Doval meeting said.

Reportedly, Putin proposed to hold a bilateral meeting with Modi on the sidelines of the BRICS summit. The meeting would focus on strengthening the bilaterals between both nations and implementation of the agreements reached during Modi's visit to Russia.

"We are waiting for our good friend Modi and best regards to him," said Putin after the meeting with Doval.

MEA on Thursday in a statement said that Doval held talks with his Russian counterpart Sergei Shoigu and focused on bilateral relations.

During Modi's meeting with Zelenskyy, he had stressed that both Ukraine and Russia should sit together and resolve the issues and India was ready to play an "active role" in ending the war.

Meanwhile, Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni on Saturday said that India and China can play a role in finding a solution to the conflict between both nations. Meloni's remarks came after her talks with Zelenskyy.
