Donald Trump refuses to back down, says he will never surrender after surviving second assassination bid

After the failed assassination attempt, former United States President and Republican presidential candidate Donald Trump said he "will never surrender". 

Trump thanked the US Secret Service and other law enforcement officials for their "outstanding" job. 

Will never stop fighting for Americans, he said. 

The suspect who attempted to assassinate former United States president Donald Trump was identified as Ryan Wesley Routh. The 58-year-old man fired several shots in an attempt to assassinate the Republican presidential candidate while he was golfing on his course in Flordia.

"I am Donald J. Trump. FEAR NOT! I am safe and well, and no one was hurt. Thank God!," Trump said on his campaign website. 

"There are people in this world who will do whatever it takes to stop us. I will not stop fighting for you. I will Never Surrender! I will always love you for supporting me. Through our UNITY we will Make America Great Again! I will Never Surrender!" Trump said.

In a post on Truth Social he said, "Most importantly, I want to thank the US Secret Service, Sheriff Ric Bradshaw and his Office of brave and dedicated patriots, and, all of the law enforcement, for the incredible job done today at Trump International in keeping me, as the 45th President of the United States, and the Republican nominee in the upcoming presidential election, SAFE."

President Joe Biden and Vice President Kamala Harris reacted to the incident and were briefed on the investigation. 

While reacting to Trump's assassination attempt incident, Tesla CEO Elon Musk questioned why no similar threats were being made against Biden or Harris. 

On July 13, an attempt was made to assassinate Trump during a Pennsylvania rally in Butler. The bullet grazed his war not causing much harm. 

Trump has had his security beefed up since the July assassination attempt.
