Israel is investigating the rumours about Hamas leader Yahya Sinwar who has been incommunicado for a while. This comes after the IDF struck a school in Gaza City after it targeted a Hamas command centre where 22 people were killed.
Journalist Ben Caspit posted on X that Sinwar's death has not been confirmed due to his history of evading death in the past. Earlier, there were similar rumours as Sinwar disappeared following such strikes by the IDF.
Palestinian health authorities reported that only women and children were among the 22 victims killed in the strike.
Israel's Shin Bet agency believes Sinwar is still alive while the IDF's Military Intelligence Directorate claimed that he was possibly dead though no evidence was retrieved.

Sinwar, the kingpin in the October 7 attacks on Israel, was a founding member of the Hamas when it was formed in 1987. He became Hamas chief following the assassination of his predecessor Ismail Haniyeh in Tehran in August.
Besides Haniyeh, Israel has assassinated Hamas military wing chief Muhammad Deif, Khan Younis Brigade chief Rafa'a Salameh, Hamas deputy chief Saleh al-Arouri and several others.
