As Israel marks one year of the October 7 attacks and subsequent war against Hamas in Gaza, the Israel Defense Forces (IDF) on Monday published new data on its operations in the Gaza Strip, the West Bank, and Lebanon, which cited that 726 of its troops were killed.
The IDF campaign in Gaza saw it bombing at least 40,000 targets in Gaza, which included 4,700 tunnel shafts, mostly in Gaza. The IDF air raids also destroyed 1,000 rocket launcher sites.
Over 726 Israeli soldiers perished in the war, including 380 who died in the October 7 attacks. Over 346 were killed in Gaza combat while over 4,576 soldiers were injured till now. Fifty-six soldiers died as a result of operational accidents, which the military did not define.
Over 56 soldiers were killed due to friendly fire in Gaza and other military-related accidents. Israel also enlisted 300,000 reservists since the start of the war - 82% men and 18% women and nearly half of them aged 20 to 29.
Target Hamas
In the subsequent war since the October 7 attacks, Israel claims it killed some 17,000 Hamas operatives in the Gaza Strip. This is besides the over 1,000 terrorists killed inside Israel on October 7 when the gunmen rampaged through the south of Israel, massacring some 1,200 people, mostly civilians, and abducting 251 to Gaza.
Israel also killed eight Gaza militant brigade commanders, about 30 battalion commanders and 165 company commanders over the past year.
However, the Hamas-run health ministry in Gaza claimed over 41,000 Palestinians have been killed in Gaza.
Israel also saw rockets targetted at it, including 13,200 fired from Gaza and another 12,400 from Lebanon. Over 60 came from Syria, 180 from Yemen and 400 from Iran, the military said.
Israel claims it killed more than 800 "terrorists" in Lebanon. The fighter jets targeted 4,900 locations and 6,000 ground targets. Over the past year, Israel arrested more than 5,000 suspects in the West Bank and Jordan Valley.
The IDF Military Intelligence Directorate’s Unit 504 interrogated some 7,000 Palestinian suspects in the Gaza Strip, many of whom were arrested and brought to Israel for further questioning. Many have also been returned to Gaza after questioning.
