Israel Defense Forces spokesperson Rear Admiral Daniel Hagari has claimed that the Hezbollah finance chief was killed in a targeted strike in Syria.
Hagari, however, did not name the commander who was eliminated. He was the commander of Hezbollah's Unit 4400, which was responsible for the transfers and the amount of funds". IDF claimed the fund was procured from Iran's oil money.
The former chief of Unit 4400 was headed by Mohammed Jafar Ksir aka Sheikh Salah, whom Israel killed in Beirut earlier in October.
IDF said the Israeli Air Force (IAF) carried out intelligence-based airstrikes targeting dozens of facilities and sites in “Beirut and deep within Lebanese territory” used by the Hezbollah to finance its activities.
The Israeli military said the money amounting to billions of dollars was stored by the Al-Qard al-Hassan Association, which directly funds Hezbollah operations. These were used for buying weapons and paying the Hezbollah military operatives.
According to Israeli military, the cash and gold are stored in a bunker built under Al Sahel hospital in Beirut. Israeli Chief of the General Staff Herzi Halevi said they have hit nearly 30 sites belonging to Al-Qard al-Hassan.
IDF claimed that before conducting the airstrike, it took several measures to reduce the risk of civilian casualties, including advance warnings through different platforms to the residents.
Syria defence ministry revealed that two people were killed in the Israeli strike in Damascus. The Syrian Observatory for Human Rights said a non-Syrian man was killed in the airstrike while driving his car at a locality where Hamas chief Yahya Sinwar's memorial was held.
