Washington said Israeli strikes targeting Iran should 'complete' exchange of fire between enemies. US President Joe Biden was updated about the operation as the attacks were carried out. A senior Biden administration official said there will be consequences if Iran attacks Israel, adding that the US is fully prepared to once again defend any attack.
The official said the US has direct and indirect channels with Iran. "And they know our position on multiple issues," he added.
Iran said its air defence system has countered Israel's attacks successfully though "limited damage" was caused to some location. Iran has suspended all flights until further notice after the strikes were announced by Israel.
Israel has intensified its attack on Hezbollah, an Iran-backed Shia militant group, which has been supporting Hamas in the ongoing conflict.
Israel revealed its planes safely returned home after completing the attack. The Iran Defense Forces said it targeted facilities where the missiles that Iran fired at Israel over the last year was manufactured.
