Israel's Chief of the General Staff LTG Herzi Halevi was seen inside a Hezbollah tunnel in southern Lebanon, showing well-equipped facilities that show the Iran-backed Shia group was preparing for an all-out war against Israel.
Halevi says in the video that they have been saying for years that Hezbollah is preparing the area of the border for war.
"To the countries that doubted it, to the UN, to the UNIFIL force that was [stationed] up here… We caught this in time, before it was too late," the IDF chief says, adding that this infrastructure must not appear again in the future.
In the video, he says that well-developed tunnel system is not located far from the Israeli border. The tunnels have bathrooms, showers, kitchens and several weapon storage facilities. Halevi says one of the rooms in the tunnel system can accommodate an entire military company.
"It's possible to stay here, live here, equip yourself here and head east for an invasion into Israel," Halevi says, pointing out that this evidence is key to understanding why the Israeli military is operating above and below ground.
He said the challenge will be to ensure that these structure do not return here.
During his visit, Halevi said he examined the the point of entry and how the intensity of the fighting was revealed by the amount of AK-47 bullets on the floor and how the IEDs stored in the tunnel were used against Israel.
He congratulated his officers for dismantling the infrastructure properly and eliminating Hezbollah fighters stationed there, adding that the new mission is to destroy it completely so that Hezbollah cannot operate from there again.
"Our task over the years to come will be to make sure that no new infrastructure is built
