Donald Trump is set to take over as the US President for the second time as he swept major battleground states like Pennsylvania, Georgia and North Carolina. This makes him the first US president to win a non-consecutive term after losing in the 2020 elections.

However, this is not the only historical first in the 2024 US elections. Here's a list of leaders who are set to create history.
Sarah McBride
Sarah McBride won the Delaware Congress seat, becoming the first transgender person to become a House Representative. The Demoractic state Senator from Delaware defeated Republican rival John Whalen III. She won 57.8 per cent of the vote when 95 per cent of the total ballot was counted. In April 2012, she came out as transgender in the student newspaper of American University. She also became the first transgender woman to work in White House during the Barack Obama administration the same year.
Julie Johnson
Julie Johnson, a trial attorney, is the first openly LGBTQ person to win a federal election in Texas. She was the state lawmaker for three terms and a staunch advocate of LGBTG rights. She vowed to prioritise women's health care and that she would vote for abortion rights in Congress. She succeeds Democrat Colin Allred who vacated the seat to run against US Senator Ted Cruz.
Bernie Moreno
GOP's Bernie Moreno will be the first Latino senator from Ohio after defeating Democrat rival and three-time Senator Sherrod Brown. A crypto champion and businessman, Moreno led in areas where the 2020 presidential race saw a tight fight.
Emily Randall
Emily Randall, who is the Democratic State Senator, will be the first openly LGBTQ person to serve in the Congress from Washington state. She will represent the state's 6th Congressional District after defeating state senator Drew MacEwen.
Andy Kim
Andy Kim, a Democrat US Representative, will be the first Korean American, to get elected to the US Senate after defeating Republican businessman Curtis Bashaw. Kim will succeed Bob Menendez who quit the post after convicted for bribery.
Josh Stein
Josh Stein, a Democrat, will be the first Jewish person to be elected a the North Carolina governor. The Harvard-trained lawyer was a former state senator and will succeed Roy Cooper, a Democrat who was term-limited.
Yassamin Ansari
A Democrat and born to immigrants, Yassamin Ansari is the first Iranian American to be elected to the Congress. She was a former member of the Phoenix City Council. She will now represent Arizona's 3rd district in Congress.
Suhas Subramanyam
Suhas Subramanyam from the Democratic Party is set to be the first Indian American to be elected to Congress from Virginia after winning the commonwealth's 10th Congressional District. The state senator was born to Indian immigrant parents and will succeed three-time Dem Rep. Jennifer Wexton.
